Description: Thallus less than 2 cm high, of ecorticate branched prostrate axes bearing subdichotomous branches often consisting of free ends of prostrate axes and bearing whorls of up to 7 simple or subdichotomous determinate branchlets on each cell. Procarps borne on supporting cell cut off from sub-apical cell of a 3-celled fertile axis developed in place of a determinate branchlet. Carpogonium of 4-celled carpogonial branch connects with auxiliary cell cut off from supporting cell. Gonimoblast surrounded by involucral branches and fusion cell formed from supporting cell, auxiliary cell and subapical cell of the fertile axis. Gonimolobes form a cystocarp composed of carposporangia. Spermatangial fascicles and 2-5 tetrahedral tetrasporangia borne on basal cells of determinate branchlets. Morphological and reproductive features suggest Baldockia as a primitive member of Griffithsieae superficially similar to Halurus equisetifolius (Lightfoot) Kützing.

Contributors
Some of the descriptions included in AlgaeBase were originally from the unpublished Encyclopedia of Algal Genera, organised in the 1990s by Dr Bruce Parker on behalf of the Phycological Society of America (PSA) and intended to be published in CD format. These AlgaeBase descriptions are now being continually updated, and each current contributor is identified above. The PSA and AlgaeBase warmly acknowledge the generosity of all past and present contributors and particularly the work of Dr Parker.

Descriptions of chrysophyte genera were subsequently published in J. Kristiansen & H.R. Preisig (eds.). 2001. Encyclopedia of Chrysophyte Genera. Bibliotheca Phycologica 110: 1-260.
