Description: Azevedo et Sant' Anna(2003): Colonies microscopic, free-floating, in young stages small hollow spheres or irregular, later hollow, spherical, broadly elliptical, cylindrical or irregular in shape, with holes in the colony surface, slightly flattened, sometimes clathrate; mucilaginous envelope narrow, diffluent, inconspicuous, colourless; cells spherical, initially loosely arranged, later more or less densely arranged, always on the colony surface; cell content with aerotopes.
