Original publication and holotype designation: Sonder, G. (1845). Nova algarum genera et species, quas in itinere ad oras occidentales Novae Hollandiae, collegit L. Priess, Ph. Dr. Botanische Zeitung 3(4): 49-57.
Request PDFDescription: Foliose, irregularly pinnately branched, relatively thick and lubricous, arising from a compressed, cartilaginous stipe. Medulla filamentous. Rhizoids present. Cortex relatively thick, inwardly of lax, transversey expanded cells, outwardly of anticlinal files of isodiametric cells, progressively smaller toward cuticle. Female ampullar and male reproductive structures not adequately described. Tetrasporophyte isomorphic. Tetrasporangia cruciate, in the outer cortex.
