Taxonomic note
Athansiadis (2016: 808) writes: "The study of Mcivor & al. (2002, f.8-9) provided evidence for the existence of a monophyletic multlnucleate group (Callithamnion) and several groups within the uninucleate Aglaothamnion (s.l. ). Five species (Aglaothamnion sepositum, A. roseum, A. hookeri, A. sp. - Spain, A. gallicum) resolved as a sister group to Callithamnion, and Gaillona is here recognized as the earliest name for this assemblage. Aglaothamnion is maintained as a paraphyletic group for the remaining unlnucleate species, where the generitype A. tenuissimum and A. pseudobyssoides are currently included in a sister-taxon relationship. Gaillona differs from Aglaothamnion s.s. (i.e. A. tenuissimum and A. pseudobyssoides) in comprising taxa with predominantly distlchous ramification." - (20 October 2010) - M.D. Guiry
