Description: Erect, taeniform, dorsiventral thalli, up to ~20 cm tall, ~0.5 cm broad; alate-polysiphonous with inrolled apices. 5 pericentral cells, 2 lateral pairs of which divide laterally to form two opposite alae; inner large cells of alae becoming corticated by small cells and cortication of axes produces prominent midribs. Opposite branches occur in regular sequence in 1-several orders; ultimate branches often a serration. Trichoblasts on dorsal side of midrib, on most every segment and soon deciduous. Reproductive structures on small marginal determinate branchlets. Tetrasporangial stichidia in tips of branched laterals, 2 per segment forming two longitudinal rows; stichidia curved, sometimes with median-dorsal trichoblasts or scar cells. Cystocarps spheroidal, borne on trichoblast bases on dorsal side of marginal branchlets.
