Description: Thallus epiphytic, forming tufts to 20 mm high, generally on Seagrass. Thallus consisting of basal horizontal filaments on host that issue erect filaments forming a medulla of less pigmented cells, short pigmented cortical filaments and long assimilatory filaments with basal intercalary meristem. Medulla and short cortical filaments may be much reduced. Erect filaments are rarely branched towards base. Reproductive organs are ovate to elongate-pyriform unilocular sporangia, which are not present in all species, formed from upper medullary cells, and multiseriate plurilocular sporangia formed by subdivision including longitudinal divisions of cells of the long assimilatory filaments. Phaeophycean hairs present. Life history direct.
