Description: Frons filiformis, cylindracea, membranacea, ramosa. Radix nuda, scutata. Fructus : semina rotundata in soris minutissimis aggregata, soris lineas transversales formantibus.

Comments: Although various culture results reported by various authors, recent reports suggest monophasic, heteromorphic type of life history (Nygren 1975, Pedersen 1984). Unispores developed into filamentous microthalli forming ectocarpoid plurilocular sporangia or unilocular sporangia whose swarmers reproduced erect thalli or microthalli. Usually subtidal, spring to summer annual, epilithic or epiphytic. Distributed in temperate water area of Pacific, Atlantic Ocean and Mediterranean Sea.
