Description: Thallus erect, attached by a rhizomatose holdfast; monopodial with many polysiphonous cylindrical branches, 5 pericentrals enclosed by several layers of corticating tissue; branches regularly and pectinately arranged in two adaxial rows, often paired, branches dorsiventrally oriented, especially notable in distal branchlets which have recurved apices. Trichoblasts in a single median row on dorsal side of thallus. Reproduction by lanceolate tetrasporangial stichidia formed in positions of ultimate branchlets; tetrasporangia tetrahedrally divided, two per segment forming two longitudinal rows in the stichidia, borne on pericentrals 3 and 4. Gametangia borne in positions of trichoblasts on dorsal sides of specially produced polysiphonous ramuli; spermatangial capitula ovoid, several on each ramulus; cystocarps spheroid to ovoid, usually singly produced on fertile ramuli which become stalks of mature cystocarps.
