Nomenclatural note
Fourtanier, E. & Kociolek (1999: 22) write "Kiitzing does not specify that this is a new genus. Two species are described in the original publication (A. microcephalum and A. delicatulum), and no generitype is designated. In Cleve 1895 (ref. 000949) p. 191, it is introduced as %u201CAchnanthidium (Kiitz. 1844) Heib. 1863%u201D, there is, however, nothing in Heiberg 1863 (ref. 000471, p. 118) that justifies such a citation. According to Ross in Farr et al. 1979, Achnanthidium microcephalum was designated as the type by Rabenhorst 1853, p. 46 (ref. 000772); Rabenhorst transferred A. delicatulum into genus Falcatella, but retained A. microcephalum in Achnanthidium (p. 25), his action by itself does not constitute lectotypification which is effected by Ross in Farr et al. 1979, p. 12." - (14 August 2017) - M.D. Guiry
