Nomenclatural note
Genus of animals treated under the ICZN. ING lists "Alcyonium W. Hisinger, Anteckningar Phys. Geognosi Sverige Norrige 3: 89. 1823 (non vidi)" supposedly based on a Silurian fossil. [The round kernel described above bears some resemblance to the so-called stoned Nutmegs, whose origin is uncertain, whether they belong to Alcyonium or some other genus.]. This does not constitute a description. - (14 February 2010) - M.D. Guiry
