Description: Thalli forming a coarse mat-like turf of prostrate and erect axes, up to 4 mm tall. Prostrate axes terete, up to 80 µm diameter, attached by unicellular rhizoids forming irregular fringes from lower surfaces of prostrate axes. Erect axes terete to compressed, 80–135 µm in diameter, with attenuate apices. Branching multifarious, irregular, forming a three-pronged fork, sometimes palmately divided at truncated parts. Subapical cells distichously divided. Outermost cortical cells irregular in shape and arrangement. Cortex composed of about three layers of pigmented cells. Medulla of three to four layers of pigmented or non-pigmented, thick-walled cells. Monosporangia formed from inner cortical cells and irregularly arranged at apices of erect axes and lateral branches, 5–10 x 10–20 µm in size
