Description: Thallus of erect monosiphonous, ecorticate filaments with branched determinate branchlets which are whorled, paired or alternate and radial below and alternate and radial above on indeterminate branches borne directly on axial cells. Sexual plants unknown. Tetrasporangia large, sessile on cells of indeterminate axes, tetrahedrally divided. Nwynea is unique in Ceramiaceae in bearing tetrasporangia directly on axial cells.
