Description: Red alga of the tribe Lophothalieae, differing from the other genera by persistent, pigmented, unbranched trichoblasts, 5- 10 periaxial cells per segment, trichoblasts arising exogenously from every seg­ ment in a clockwise spiral, indeterminate laterals arising exoge­ nously, all reproductive structures borne on trichoblasts, tetraspor­ angia borne in stichidia, one per segment, spirally arranged, spermatangial branches forming clusters around apices of short indeterminate laterals.
