Kintokiocolax Tak.Tanaka & Y.Nozawa, 1960

Holotype species: Kintokiocolax aggregatoceranthus Tak.Tanaka & Y.Nozawa

Original publication and holotype designation: Tanaka, T. & Nozawa, Y. (1960). One red algal parasite from Japan. Mem. Fac. Fish. Kagoshima Univ. 9: 107-112.

Description: Small, clustered, wartlike parasite of Prionitis, yellowish white to pale pink. Medulla of large cuboidal cells, with secondary pit connections, occasional filamentous cells (no rhizoidal filaments). Cortex of progressively smaller ellipsoidal cells. Carpogonium and auxiliary cell in ampullae, branched at most to two orders. Carpogonial branch 2-celled. Auxiliary cell first or second cell of primary or first cell of secondary filament; auxiliary cell branch sometimes unbranched. Fertilized carpogonium producing connecting filament(s?) that contacts auxiliary cell; a secondary connecting filament issuing from opposite side of auxiliary cell. Gonimoblast initial cutting off multiple gonimoblast cells. Elongate lateral vegetative filaments developing concommitantly with gonimoblast development. Cystocarp compact, spherical or hemispherical, in medulla; most gonimoblast cells maturing into carposporangia. Spermatangia unknown. Tetrasporophyte isomorphic. Tetrasporangia attached subbasally in outer cortex.

Contributors
Some of the descriptions included in AlgaeBase were originally from the unpublished Encyclopedia of Algal Genera, organised in the 1990s by Dr Bruce Parker on behalf of the Phycological Society of America (PSA) and intended to be published in CD format. These AlgaeBase descriptions are now being continually updated, and each current contributor is identified above. The PSA and AlgaeBase warmly acknowledge the generosity of all past and present contributors and particularly the work of Dr Parker.

Descriptions of chrysophyte genera were subsequently published in J. Kristiansen & H.R. Preisig (eds.). 2001. Encyclopedia of Chrysophyte Genera. Bibliotheca Phycologica 110: 1-260.
