Description: Uniaxial, firm, distinctly flattened, ligulate, distichously to subdichotomously branched to four orders. Midrib and lateral veins sometimes evident. Margins denticulate. Rhizoids surrounding axial cell and four periaxial cells, which are attached near middle of axial cell. Cortex of isodiametric cells, progressively smaller toward cuticle. Cells uninucleate. Secondary pit connections lacking. Monoecious or dioecious. Carpogonium terminating a long, distally recurved, sparingly proximally branched, adventitious filament. Distal cells enlarged and lobed. Connecting filaments contacting a succession of intercalary, distal auxiliary cells on separate, adventitious, percurrent filaments. Secondary connecting filaments and gonimoblast initials arising from remnant of connecting filament attached to auxiliary cell. Cells of gonimoblast maturing into many, small carposporangia. Gonimoblast fusion cell lacking. Carpostome rudimentary. Spermatangia superficial, cut off by oblique walls. Tetrasporophyte unknown.
