Distributional note
"Besides the species treated in the key, from the Mediterranean area was reported, but only from the Black Sea (Ribera et al., 1992), Myrionema balticum (Reinke) Foslie. This species, with a cold boreal distribution, distinguishes from the related M. strangulans, in showing uniseriate, plurilocular (rarely with few oblique divisions) cysts up to 150 µm long and borne only at the end of short erect filaments [uniseriate (rarely biseriate) up to 45 µm long, both sessile on prostrate filaments and at the end of short erect filaments, in M. strangulans]."
