Type Species
The type species (lectotype) of the genus Delesseria is Delesseria sanguinea (Hudson) J.V.Lamouroux.

Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Hypoglossum hypoglossoides (Stackhouse) Collins & Hervey.

Nomenclatural note
Introduced as "Delesseria lomentacea nov. sp." in Zanardini (1843: 45) but no description was provided: "È affine alla precedente e trovasi negli stessi luoghi." [It is similar to the previous one and is in the same places.] "This species was described by Zanardini (1841: 428) and, later, more widely described and illustrated by Zanardini himself (Zanardini, 1864: 17, pl. XXXV). Hauck (1883: 174) considered it as a synonym of D. hypoglossum var. woodwardii; while Ardissone (1883: 261) reduced it to as a variety of D. hypoglossum as: D. hypoglossum var. lomentacea (Zanardini) Ardissone."
