Taxonomic note
Fuciková et al. (2011: 422) notes that this species lacks inflected plastid edges and produces orange oil as the culture ages (Korshikov 1953), a trait commonly observed in Bracteacoccus rather than Dictyococcus and that the description and depiction of D. mucosus suggest affiliation with Bracteacoccus rather Dictyococcus. - (12 August 2011) - G.M.
