Nomenclatural note
Kuntze cites "Fucus pygmaeus Hering" as the basionym, apparently as cited by J. Agardh (1848: 212), which was an error of citations for Fucus minimus K. Hering [=Chnoospora minima (K. Hering) Papenfuss]. Virsodes pygmaeus Kuntze is here treated as a new name, which effectively connects with Chnoospora minima. - (24 July 2006) - G.M. Guiry
