This is the type species (holotype) of the genus Distephanus.

This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Stephanocha rotunda (Stöhr) K.McCartney & R.W.Jordan.

Type locality: Tripoli von Grotte, Provinz Girgenti, Sicily [Miocene (U. Tortonian) fide Loeblichs]; (Index Nominum Algarum)grotto; Notes: 'sehr selten, nur ein Exemplar' (INA).

Described as a fossil.

Origin of Species Name
Adjective (Latin), almost circular, with length breadth ration of about 6 to 5 (Stearn 1973).
