The type species (lectotype) of the genus Nemastoma is Nemastoma dichotomum J.Agardh.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Tsengia laciniata (J.Agardh) D'Archino & Zuccarello.

Origin of Species Name
Adjective (Latin), slashed into narrow divisions with tapering, pointed incisions (Stearn 1973).
