Nomenclatural note
Bucur (2002): "According to Granier & Deloffre (1993) Kopetdagaria sphaerica MASLOV, 1960 is a nomen nudum because the designated holotype is not a single specimen, but a thin section (6510.5 in Maslov, 1960, p. 1035)." However, the fossilised alga in the thin section is the type (slide 65-10.5, deposited at the Geological Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences, in Moscow), because it is a single gathering (Shenzhen Code, art. 8.2) and admixtures are to be disregarded (Shenzhen Code, arts. 8.2 and 9.14). Besides, a nomen nudum is "A designation of a new taxon published without a description or diagnosis or reference to a description or diagnosis" (Shenzhen Code, Glossary), and does not refer to a taxon without a designated type. Therefore, the intended validation and "lectotypification" (actually, a holotype designation) by Bucur are not effective. - (03 April 2021) - E.A. Molinari Novoa
