Type locality: Antarctic Peninsula; (Ricker 1987: 46) Type: L?; Notes: "Island, lat. 64 13 South; long. 57 West, Jan 6 1843"; J.D. Hooker (INA). Mount Erebus, Ross Island (64º135 S, 57º E); marked "K Suringar, in 1843" but exact date not readable (Kützing's handwriting) (Moniz et al. 2012: table 1).

Origin of Species Name
Adjective (Latin), crisped, irregularly waved and twisted (Stearn 1973).

Habitat
Marine, supralittoral: nearby penguin colony (Karsten et al., 2005: 560).
