Type Species
The type species (lectotype) of the genus Laurencia is Laurencia obtusa (Hudson) J.V.Lamouroux.

Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Palisada rigida (J.Agardh) Metti.

Source of Synonymy
Metti, Y. (2022). Based on morphology and molecular data, Palisada rigida comb. nov. and Laurencia decussata comb. et stat. nov. (Rhodophyta, Rhodomelaceae) are proposed. Algae 37(1): 15-32.

Syntype localities: various, including "in oceano indico calidiore"; (Silva & al. 1996: 520) Lectotype: herb. alg. Agardh; no. 36694 (Millar 1990: 466) Notes: Type specimens (fig. 6A). Agardh LUND no. 36694, "e Nova Hollandiea boreali;" Kilner. Probable Isotype specimens (fig. 6C): Mueller, MEL 1007183 " nov. Holl. boreal; Kilner"; BM 974110 "Nov. Holi. boreal"; BM 974113 " nov.
