The type species (lectotype) of the genus Vaucheria is Vaucheria disperma A.P.de Candolle.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Vaucheria nuoljae (Skuja) Vishnyakov.
Origin of Species Name
Adjective (Latin), growing on the ground or soil, as opposed to rocks or trees (Stearn 1973).
