Type Species
The type species (lectotype) of the genus Conferva is Conferva rupestris Linnaeus.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Acrosiphonia arcta (Dillwyn) Gain.

Adjective (Latin), close, confined, tight (Stearn 1973).
