Nomenclatural note
"When Kützing (1843: 375, pl. 41/II), reported from the Adriatic Sea this species, later illustrated also in his Tabulae Phycologicae (Kützing, 1862: 4, pl. 10/a-d), he intended to propose (as made by both Naccari and C. Agardh, see above) a new combination based on Ceramium versicolor C. Agardh nom. illeg. (see). The name is illegitimate according to Art. 58.1 Note 1 of ICN (Turland et al., 2018), because the epithet fruticulosum was available for use." (Cormaci 2023: 322). - (21 November 2023) - M.D. Guiry
