This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Pithophora roettleri (Roth) Wittrock.

Adjective A (Latin), named for a person with the surname Cleve; for algae (particularly diatoms) generally, either Per Theodor Cleve (1840-1905) or Astrid Maria Cleve (1875-1968).
