The type species (holotype) of the genus Diadesmis is Diadesmis confervacea Kützing.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Humidophila nienta (J.R.Carter) R.L.Lowe, Kociolek, J.R.Johansen, Van de Vijver, Lange-Bertalot & Kopalová.

Type locality: Crozet Archipelago :Ile de la Possession; (Index Nominum Algarum) Type: coll. Van de Vijver; RUCA, prep. PLP-017D (Index Nominum Algarum) Notes: sub-Antarctic Iles Kerguelen (Lowe et al., 2014: 353).
