The type species (holotype) of the genus Phyllophora is Phyllophora rubens (Linnaeus) Greville.

This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Erythrodermis traillii (Holmes ex Batters) Guiry & Garbary.

Eponomy
Named for George William Traill (1836-1897), Scottish phycologist and mineralogist.
