Type locality: Mecherchar Island, the Republic of Palau; (Tamura et al 2005: 661) Holotype: 22 May 2002; Sandy beach; SAP; 097581 (Tamura et al 2005: 661, 659) Notes: Holotype: An embedded specimen in epoxy resin (SAP. 097581). Isotype: a similar slide numbered SAP097582.
General Environment
This is a marine species.
Similar Species
According to Tamura et al. (2005: 658), the endosymbiont of G. rugatum is a diatom and phylogenetic analysis based on small subunit rDNA sequences demonstrated that G. rugatum, Durinskia baltica and Kryptoperidinium foliaceum, all of which are known to harbour an endosymbiont of diatom origin, are closely related.
