Taxonomic note
De Clerck et al. (2005: 392) note that this is a synonym of G. filicina on the authority of J. Agardh (1876) and Taylor (1960). However, Denatte & Wynne (2016) write: "Grateloupia lancifera was described by Montagne (1856), with a type locality of Martinique. Taylor (1960) had regarded it as conspecific with G. filicina. With the evidence presented by De Clerck et al. (2005) that genuine G. filicina is restricted to the Mediteranean, G. lancifera is reinstated as an appropriate taxon for material from the West Indies incorrectly called 'G. filicina'." - (04 August 2006) - G.M. Guiry
