Type species
The type species (holotype) of the genus Chloromonas is Chloromonas reticulata (Goroschankin) Gobi.

This name is currently regarded as a taxonomic synonym of Chlamydomonas alpina (Wille) Playfair

Adjective A (Latin), alpine, growing in the Alps or in the alpine zone of other mountains (Stearn 1973).
