Type locality: Prope Saldas (Bougie) et Caesaream Mauretaniae (Cherchell) [Algeria: Constantine: Cap Carbon, near Bougie (Lectotype selected by G. Furnari et al., Cryptogamie: Algologie 20: 20, fig. 1. 1999)] (Johnson 2001: 7). Lectotype: J. Feldmann & G. Feldmann 5393; 28.v.1939; PC (Firnari, Cormaci & Alongi 1999: 20).
