Campylomorph cells flattened, without pyrenoids, in ventral view elliptical to ovoid, oblique anterior with apex to the left, subapically notched on right side, antapex rounded to oblique. In left or right lateral view, biconvex with oblique apex flattened to the ventral side, and rounded antapex. Single plastid composed of two connected pieces, occupying the left and right cell periphery, in apical view twisted to the right side in the posterior part of the cell. Cells (absolute minimal and maximal values of strain M0850) 19-30 microns long, 12-16 microns wide and 11-15 microns thick. Cryptomorph not known.
Type locality: Garden of the Botanical Institute, University of Cologne, Germany (Hoef-Emden & Melkonian 2003: 399). Holotype: I.B. Reize; 1991; Pond. CCAC CRYP.H.001 (Hoef-Emden & Melkonian 2003: 399). Notes: Holotype: Permanent slide taken from strain M0850.
