Type locality: Guardiano del Porto, Salina Island, Aeolian Islands, Italy; (Alongi, Cormaci & Furnari 2008: 146) Holotype: M. Catra; - 4 m; on Cystoseira spp.; CAT; 2691 (Alongi, Cormaci & Furnari 2008: 146) Notes: Male and female gametophytes and tetrasporophyte.

This is a marine species.
Description
Thalli epiphytic, consisting of (1-)2-4(-5) terete erect
axes 5-10(-13) mm high arising from a discoid holdfast,
axes unbranched, distinctly constricted at monostromatic
diaphragms, with unilayered cortex, and covered in a
thick mucilaginous layer. Longitudinal filaments occurring
along axes close to the inner side of the cortex, cutting
off spherical to obovoid gland cells. Gametophytic plants
dioecious, consisting of only two segments. Male thalli
with spermatangia in superficial sori located between the
two segments. Female thalli bearing 1-2 spherical sessile
cystocarps at the distal part of the basal segment.
Tetrasporic thalli consisting of 4-5 segments, tetrasporangia
tetrahedrally divided and scattered in all
segments.
Habitat
Shallow subtidal.

Taxonomic note
"This species differs from other small species of Chylocladia mainly in erect habit, unbranched erect axes, 1-layered cortex covered with a thick mucilaginous layer (Alongi et al., 2008: 149)." (Cormaci, Furnari & Alongi 2021: 197).
