Nomenclatural note
Even though Cardinal (1961: 51) proposed Giffordia recurvata as a new combination, since the intended basionym Ectocarpus recurvatus Kuckuck (1961: 132-137) is a nomen nudum, he made a description of a new species rather than a new combination. However, the description is invalid because of the lack of a latin diagnosis as well as of the indication of the holotype, required by Art. 36.2 and Art. 37.1 of I.C.B.N. (Gruter et al., 1994), respectively (Furnari et al., 1999). - (11 May 2006) - G.M. Guiry
