Nomenclatural note
According to Silva et al. (1996), this was intended to be a combination of Conferva nodulosa Hudson, but because this name is a later homonym of C. nodulosa Lightfoot and may not serve as a basionym, Ceramium nodulosum De Candolle is to be treated as a nomen novum in accordance with Art. 58.3. They note that De Candolle cited Withering (1796: 138) as the author of Conferva nodulosa, but Withering explicitly accredited the name to Hudson and placed C. nodulosa Lightfoot in the synonymy of C. rubra Hudson. - (28 August 2009) - G.M.
