Type species
The type species (lectotype) of the genus Corallina is Corallina officinalis Linnaeus.

This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Corallina ferreyrae E.Y.Dawson, Acleto & Foldvik

Origin of species name
Adjective (Latin), growing in patches or tufts, caespitose (Stearn 1973).

Distributional notes

Holotype locality: Chit Rocks, Sidmouth, Devon, UK (Walker, Brodie, Russell, Irvine & Orfanidis 2009: 290). Holotype (fig. 3, a-b): Juliet Brodie and Lavinia Robba (JBLR8); 23 April 2005; In a shallow rock pool on exposed rocky shore. BM BM000804549 (Walker, Brodie, Russell, Irvine & Orfanidis 2009: 290).
