The type species (lectotype) of the genus Steiniella is Steiniella fragilis F.Schütt.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Centrodinium complanatum (Cleve) Kofoid.

Adjective (Latin), flattened out, usually in one plane (Stearn 1973).
