Type locality: Hen Wallow Falls, Great Smoky Mountains National Park, Cocke County, Tennessee, USA (Casamatta, Gomez & Johansen 2006: 23). Holotype: within the lichen Hydrothyria venosa growing in the splash zone, with water of pH 4.7. BRY C 37674 (Casamatta, Gomez & Johansen 2006: 23). Notes: Isotype (DNA extraction): BRY C 37675, Herbarium of Nonvascular Cryptogams, Brigham Young University, Provo, Utah, USA. Isotype (in Hydrothyria venosa): BRY C 37676. Reference strain designation HWF3-JJ1: UTEX Culture Collection, University of Texas, Austin, Texas, USA.
