Nomenclatural note
The original description of Conferva glaucescens A.W.Griffiths ex Harvey (Harvey 1841: 139) cited a number of syntype localities: Torquay, Devon; Mangan's Bay, Co, Waterford; Portarnock, Co. Dublin; and Coast of [Co.] Down. Harvey also cited Algae Danmonensis No. 195. The type could be slected from any of these. van den Hoek (1963: 77, 94) examined an "isotype" of Algae danomiensis no. 195 in L and found that "...one plant belongs to Cl. sericea, the other one to Cl. albida. By including C. glaucescens in synonymy of C. sericea, Hoek was effecitively lectotypifying C. glucescens with the C. sericea specimen in L. - (11 May 2006) - G.M. Guiry
