Status of name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Psilophycus alveatus (Turner) W.A.Nelson, Leister & Hommersand
Fucus alveatus Turner
Type locality: New Zealand (Turner 1811-1819: 100). Attempted lectotype: Joseph Banks; BM BM000610969 (Nelson et al. 2011: 223, fig. 2). Notes: Attempted lectotype sheet is of two cystocarpic plants on the same sheet. Isolectotypes: BM (without barcodes); TCD (barcode TCD0012848); Agardh Herbarium (LD 23721). According to INA, "attempted lectotypification by Nelson et al., 2011 failed to satisfy requirements of Art. 7.11 of ICBN". This is because the phrase "here designated" or "hic designatus" was not included. Corrigendum: Nelson et al. (2012: 118) render the lectotypification effective by adding the words, "designated herein".
