"This species was described by Kützing (1843: 415) from Trieste (Italy) and later illustrated in his Tabulae Phycologicae (Kützing, 1864: 30, pl. 85/a-b). Ardissone (1883: 429) listed it among the synonyms of D. rigidula; while Hauck (1883: 253) listed it, with doubt, among the synonyms of D. arbuscula var. villosa [= D. corymbifera, see]."
