This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Floiophycus africanus (Foslie) R.A.Townsend & Huisman.

Nomenclatural note
Roberta Cowan (e-mail 30 August 2017) comments: "The type specimen of A. africanum. has been investigated by one of us and found to be mixed specimen with elements referable to Sporolithon and Hydrolithon (sensu lato). A reproductive specimen of Hydrolithon is overgrowing a non-reproductive thallus of Sporolithon (as described in the protologue). However slide TRH #1054 shows sori which have been described in the protologue. This name is referrable to Sporolithon africanum NOT the Corallinaceae." - (06 September 2017) - M.D. Guiry
