The type species (lectotype) of the genus Toxonidea is Toxonidea gregoriana Donkin.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Toxonidisigma challengeriense (Castracane) Lobban & G.Reid.

Type locality: "... obtained from the washings of sand brought from the port of Tahiti, and from no great depth ..."; (Castracane 1886: 39)
