General Environment
This is a marine species.
Description
Cells solitary, spherical, 6.5-23.0 µm in diameter,
without a wall but surrounded by a thick mucilaginous
sheath. Single chloroplast grayish green, with many
extending lobes and without a pyrenoid. Peripheral thylakoid
absent. Plastoglobuli clusters present. Nucleus
central. Golgi bodies always in the perinuclear region.
Ring-shaped nucleus-associated organelles (NAOs)
associated with electron-dense material. Asexual reproduction
by fission. Sexual reproduction unknown. Mannitol
present as a LMWC.
