According to González et al. (2012: 1160), this should not be considered a synonym of Lessonia nigrescens. They note that Suhr noticed that L. scissa was similar to Lessonia nigrescens but he recognized differences in reproductive structures between the two species. - (6 Dec 2012) - Wendy Guiry
This is a marine species.
Type locality: Valparaiso, central Chile (González et al. 2012: 1159). Type: LD (Herbarium Agardh) 2155, 2156, 2157 (González et al. 2012: 1160).
