The type species (lectotype) of the genus Nitophyllum is Nitophyllum punctatum (Stackhouse) Greville.

Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Hymenena affinis (Harvey) Kylin.

Type locality: "George Town, V. D. L., R. Gunn, Esq., n. 1272" [Georgetown, Tasmania]; (Harvey 1844: 447) Lectotype (designated by Womersley 2003: 139): TCD; Herb. Harvey (Womersley 2003: 139) Notes: Womersley (2003: 139) gives the following data: lectotype, labelled "original specimen", in Herb. Harvey, TCD. (Gunn 1272 not located in 1952).

Origin of Species Name
Adjective B (Latin), neighbouring, allied to, akin to (Stearn 1973).
