Type Species
The type species (holotype) of the genus Gloiophloea is Gloiophloea scinaioides J.Agardh.

Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Scinaia confusa (Setchell) Huisman.

Lectotype locality: Monterey, California, USA; (León-Cisneros et al. 2009: 195) Lectotype: UC; 96353 (León-Cisneros et al. 2009: 195 and fig. 4 (p. 196)) Notes: Holotype not designated; syntype localities: Victoria, British Columbia to San Pedro, California (Dawson 1953: 48). Collected at San Pedro, California by Setchell, about Monterey Bay by C.P. Nott and Setchell, at Santa Cruz by Dr. C.L. Anderson, near Half Moon Bay by Dr. Carl Skottsberg, Dr. N.L. Gardner & Setchell, and near Victoria, British Columbia by John Macoun (Setchell 1914: 118, 119).
